Wymondham, Norfolk - 1747 Census

Wymondham is one of the few places in the county for which a census before 1841 survives.

1747 Census of Population

This NRO document Reference PD 184/3 (also on microform MF 580/7 and MF/PR 15) is at the back of the Parish Register that has Baptisms for the period 1713-1758 and contains figures for the year 1747. It contains statistics, occupations and religious persuasions and an additional baptism for 1751.

In the year 1747 I went to every house in the Parish; took an account of the number of families in every Division & of persons in every family; also of their religion & employments; & found by the Accounts which they themselves gave me the whole to be as follows.

October 1751
I baptised Thomas & Susan Twin Children of John Thompson Husbandman in Suton Division & Sarah his wife which was the fifth time of their having Twin's. Seven of the ten were living & likely to hu__? seeming to be very healthy strong Children.
