William White's History, Gazetteer, and Directory of Norfolk 1845

WICKHAMPTON, 8 miles W. of Yarmouth, has in its parish 139 souls, and about 1620 acres of land, of which 250 are upland, and the rest marsh. The soil belongs chiefly to Mrs. Maddison, H.N. Burroughes, Esq., the Rev. W. Emmett, Mr. W. Crow, and several smaller owners.

The Church (St. Andrew,) has an ancient altar tomb, with effigies of Sir Wm. Gerbrygge and his lady. The living is a rectory, valued in the King's Book at Ł4, in the patronage of J.F. Leathes, Esq., and incumbency of the Rev. Frederic Leathes, of Reedham.

The glebe is 16A. 2R., and the tithes have been commuted for Ł195 per annum, besides Ł4. 17s. to the vicar of Halvergate; Ł1. 15s. 10d. to the rector of Reedham, and 2s. 6d. to the vicar of Upton. The Rev. Edward Gillett, B.A., is the curate.

The Methodists have a chapel in the parish, and the common was inclosed in 1811.
