Civil Registration

For the civil registration of births, marriages and deaths between 1837 and 1884 (and for the censuses from 1851 to 1881), North Walsham was in Erpingham Registration District.

In 1884 it was transferred to Smallburgh Registration District for civil registration until 1930, and for the censuses of 1891 and 1901.

Poorhouses, Poor Law, etc

After 1834 North Walsham became part of the Erpingham Union, and the workhouses were at Gimingham and Sheringham. These were replaced by a new workhouse at West Beckham in 1850.
In 1884 North Walsham became part of the Smallburgh Union, and the workhouse was at Smallburgh.
