THURGARTON, 6½ miles N. of Aylsham, and 5½ miles S. by W. of Cromer, has in its parish 247 souls, and 961 acres of land, belonging to W.H. Windham, Esq., J.J. Gay, Esq., Mr. W.D. Spurrell, Mr. E.J. Copeman, Mr. S. Roper, and several smaller owners.
The Church (All Saints,) had a tower, which was taken down in 1822. The Bishop of Norwich is lord of the manor, and patron of the rectory, valued in the King's Book at £9. 6s. 8d., and now enjoyed by the Rev. Robt. Rolfe. The glebe is 10A., and the tithes were commuted, in 1839, for £285 per annum.
The poor have 26s. a year, left by John Bacon, in 1732.
