THORPE PARVA, 3 miles E. of Diss, is a parish annexed to Scole for poor law purposes, and is in Depwade union, Diss hundred, petty sessional division, and county court district, Ipswich bankruptcy court district, Diss polling district of South Norfolk, Redenhall rural deanery, and Norfolk archdeaconry. (See Scole.)
It comprises about 339 acres of land, belonging to George H. Wilson, Esq., the patron of the CHURCH (Virgin Mary), which has been long in ruins. The rectory is consolidated with Billingford.
Mr. Leonard Gayford, The Hall, is the only resident farmer, and occupies 263 acres, for which he pays only a tithe-rent of £6 a year. The remaining 74 acres are farmed by Mr. A.J.B. Flowerdew, of Billingford, who pays £20 commuted tithes to the rector of that parish for school purposes. Thorpe Parva is united with Billingford and other parishes. (See Scole.)
