Norfolk: Shingham
William White's History, Gazetteer, and Directory of Norfolk 1845
SHINGHAM, 4 miles S.W. of Swaffham, has in its parish only 59 souls, and
about 1,000 acres of land, partly in South Greenhoe Hundred, and all in
one farm, occupied by Mr. John Newman, and belonging to the Hon. C.S.
Cowper.
The CHURCH, (St. Bardolph,) is a rectory, valued in the King's Book at
£4 6s. 8d., and consolidated with Beechamwell All Saints. (See page
610 [which is the entry for Beechamwell].) It was augmented with £200,
of Queen Anne's Bounty, in 1794, and the tithes were commuted in 1839, for
£98 per annum.
