Norfolk: Shereford
William White's History, Gazetteer, and Directory of Norfolk 1845
SHEREFORD, or Sheringford parish, on the Wensum, 3 miles W. of
Fakenham, has only 89 souls, and 823A. of land, nearly all the property
of Lord Chas. Townshend, the lord of the manor and patron of the CHURCH,
(St. Nicholas,) which has a round tower. The living is a discharged
rectory, valued in the King's Book at £9, and in 1831 at
£227, and is now enjoyed by the Rev. Jas. Cory, B.A., of
Kettlestone, with 58½A. of glebe. The poor have a cottage given by
Viscount Townshend; a yearly rent of 15s., left by the Rev. Jno.
Branthwayt, in 1765; and 2A. of land given by an unknown donor. The two
farms are occupied by Jennis Digings and Geo. Riches.
