Lewis's Topographical Dictionary of England 1831
MERKSHALL, or MATTISHALL-HEATH, a parish in the hundred of HUMBLEYARD,
county of NORFOLK, 3½ miles (S.) from Norwich, containing 23
inhabitants. The living is a sinecure rectory, united with that of
Caistor St. Edmund's, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of
Norwich. The church, which was dedicated to St. Edmund, is in ruins.
