HEMBLINGTON is a small scattered village and parish, 8 miles E. by N. of Norwich, in Blofield union, Walsham hundred, Blofield and Walsham petty sessional division, Norwich county court and bankruptcy district, Blofield polling district of South Norfolk, Blofield rural deanery, and Norwich archdeaconry. It had 236 inhabitants in 1881, living on 739 acres of land, and has a rateable value of £1304 12s. 6d. All the soil belongs to the lords of the manor, the trustees of the late H.N. Burroughes, Esq., except 91 acres, belonging to William Jary, Esq., and 12 acres to the Dean and Chapter of Norwich.

About 1½ mile N.W. of the church is Pedam, a scattered hamlet, which derives its name from a fine lake or dam, that covers ten acres, and has a beautiful waterfall, ornamented with grottoes, arches, piles of stones and clumps of trees, arranged in the most fantastic manner.

The CHURCH (All Saints) is a small dilapidated fabric, consisting of nave, chancel, south porch, and round tower with one bell. It contains tablets of the Heath and Burcham families, and in the chancel is a piscina. The latter are appropriators of the tithes, which were commuted in 1840 for £290 a year. They are also patrons of the perpetual curacy, which was certified at £15, and has been augmented since 1775 with £1400 of Queen Anne's Bounty, so that it is now worth £56 per annum. The Rev. George Day, M.A., of Norwich, is the incumbent, for whom the Rev. Waldo Cholmeley, of South Walsham officiates.
