Norfolk: Barningham Town

BARNINGHAM TOWN, or Barningham Winter, 6 miles E.S.E. of Holt, has 86 inhabitants, and about 800 acres of land, belonging to J.T. Mott, Esq., who resides at the Hall, a large mansion built in the reign of Henry VIII., and having an extensive and well wooded park, partly in Matlaske parish.

He is patron of the Church (St. Mary,) which stands in the park, and is in ivy-mantled ruins, except the chancel, which has recently been repaired. The rectory, valued in the King's Book at £6. 13s. 4d., is enjoyed by the Rev. Edmund Nelson Rolfe. The glebe is 38A., and the tithes were commuted in 1842, for £131 per annum.
